How We Got Started

When I came back from Vietnam in the early 1970s, I started teaching karate. One of my students was working for a large vinyl siding and window manufacturing company. To show his appreciation for my teaching him martial arts, he took an interest in my future and told me about opportunities in a brand new industry – vinyl. From there, I started working and learning from other manufacturing leaders at the time, like Season All, Alside, Andersen, Pella, Comcraft, etc. I essentially grew my business hand-in-hand with the industry, progressing from vinyl windows, doors, trim, gutters, decks, to siding, and then stone.

My education stops my customers from being tricked into paying $1,000 for a $450 window – or thousands more than what they should legitimately pay for a siding project. I have built an 82% word-of-mouth referral and repeat-based business for over 40 years. My competitors give estimates – I teach my customers how to get estimates – they’re in control at all times.

My success has been due to three basic things – a sincere desire to be of service, working with companies that stand behind their products, and receiving outstanding recommendations from my customers.

Origin of Our Unique CLEAR Quote Process

Like most good business ideas, this one came from listening to our customers. I presented a large estimate to the city of Detroit to replace the windows in an historic building. After the meeting, a city councilwoman took me aside and said mine was one of the best, most accurate, easiest and shortest presentations she’d ever seen. She was looking for replacement windows for her home and asked me why I couldn’t make the same presentation to homeowners. At first, I tried to tell her that residential is different. But after thinking about it, I decided she had a good idea.

I’ve been refining the process and presenting my estimates to homeowners in this way ever since. Now, in 30 minutes, I can give you the knowledge you need to make an informed home improvement decision, regardless of where you buy.
